Sounds reasonable. Why didn't explain you this right to my first post?
That would have prevented a lot of misunderstandings and unnecessary
work.
In that case a usable manual is what is missing.
Instructions on invoking debugger on exceptions is one of
the first things told in the Hatari manual debugger section:
https://hatari.tuxfamily.org/doc/manual.html#The_debugger

Is there a FAQ, or notes, that could quickly direct a casual user
to debugger examples in the manual? (maybe add this to notes)
First link on Hatari www-site documentation page is to the Hatari manual:
https://hatari.tuxfamily.org/docs.html
Hatari manual includes table of contents at the beginning, and
that lists "Usage examples" subsection under "Debugger" section.
I.e. this one:
https://hatari.tuxfamily.org/doc/manual.html#Usage_examples
I'm not sure what more could be done on Hatari documentation side
to help find it (without burying other things that are relevant
to other users)...
