I'm pretty certain that doing
  port install texlive
will give you texlive_texmf_minimal, instead of
texlive_texmf_full. I mean, otherwise there'd be no point
splitting those packages, right? :)

My suspicion is that if he installs texlive_texmf_full, then he
won't need to mess around with his PATH variable. But I'm not
certain about this, and since he's already installed the 3gb of
texlive 2009 or whatever, he might as well sort out the PATH for
that.

But for future reference, I'd suggest that osx users try
texlive_texmf_full from macports before messing around with manual
installations.

.... it would be *great* if somebody could play around with an OSX
machine and figure out a set of minimal steps required to compile
lilypond on it. But this would require a fair chunk of installing
stuff, wiping them clean, re-installing, etc... it would be a
pretty annoying task. I guess that I could take a go at it if one
of the osx machines in our lab is free for completely wiping the
OS, but that wouldn't be for a few weeks at the earliest.

It would be nice to get this done before GOP, though.

Cheers,
