It is strange, but i know at the devlopment of Ingo Molnar's patch is going very fast and at bug can append. Maybe at you have to wait until the -rt8 version is out.

Did you see any error messages after running "make modules_install"? It will not arm if you run it one more time.
Stranges problems can append if you do more as one compilation of the same kernel, and you have old modules lying around in /lib/modules. It is best to remove completly /lib/module/<uname -r>/ before running "make modules_install" if you are not sure.

You have the right version. You must be in the audio group and
modify /etc/security/limits.conf as suggested in the Howto.

I added a comment today in the howto. It is about pam-rlimits and the realtime-lsm,
and I just corrected it (pam version was not clear).
http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki/index.php?title=Howto_RT_Kernel#Realtime-lsm_and_PAM-Rlimits

I tryied both on a 2.6.16 kernel, and both was working.

But maybe at you have another problem with the kernel.
