I agree with you on this point: Allegro should compile right out of the box
on the maximum number of platforms, even if they are somewhat outdated. I
don't think providing an option to disable SSE would be over-complicated,
given that we have done that for a long time for MMX. And I have never
understood why the option for disabling MMX was thrown away...
