Hello,
Some pages have been created and then
proposed for proofreading by Demario, including the
TraductionRaces page, on August 06.
No one has yet taken the time to discuss the
subject with him, as not many days have passed since their
creation.
For the PEGI, I had seen once a PEGI 7 on the
play store, I know it wasn't official build and the page no
longer exists, but it gives an idea of how the game was
perceived not only for me.
Until now, I considered (in the 10+ years
I've known the game) that this was appropriate.
I think a PEGI rating to give an idea in the
comments or on the the game's presentation page could warn
"old-timers" like me who suggest this game to younger
players without thinking that there's been a change in the
form of the campaigns to make them less accessible, or that
there are new, less accessible campaigns.
Besides, I don't know of any PEGI 13+, there
are 12+ and then 16+.
Is there a debate on this topic in the forum
or elsewhere?
Have a good day,
------
Bonjour,

Another contributor noticed in
https://wiki.wesnoth.org/TraductionRaces
(the deleted wiki page) that it mentioned changing/watering
down the meaning of certain types of darker events that
happen in the game's lore (ie: slavery) and the concern was
raised that the translated lore and dialogue would not be
accurate to the source material. No examples of this
happening were provided, however the wiki page seemed to
make it clear that they were guidelines to follow for future
translations.
Wesnoth has no official age rating from PEGI,
ESRB, etc since we have never submitted it to be rated and
getting a rating from one or more of those agencies is not a
requirement. Steam has a content survey that it uses to
provide age rating for Germany and Brazil since they
specifically have laws requiring it, but that's it. Apple
also has a similar survey which incorrectly rates the game
as being for ages 9+, however I'm waiting on the macOS
packager to fix that. Other platforms - itch.io,
SourceForge, Flathub, etc - have no way of indicating an age
rating at all.

VA :
Hello,
I'd like to know what you're talking
about. Are you talking about a page that's been deleted
from the wiki?
A priori, we don't take any liberties with
the original text, do we?
By the way, if there's a PEGI rating for
Wesnoth, it would be nice to have it appear somewhere on
the game's download pages at the very least.
And Demario, what is a PM?

VO :
Bonjour,

I will do so then. However the point is
that translations are supposed to be accurate to the
source material, not altered because a translator
dislikes the content. We do not want a 4kids translation
of Wesnoth. If we find that is being done, then further
translation updates will not be accepted into mainline.
Hi, feel free
to delete the offending pages from the wiki hosted by
wesnoth.
As the general
topic, translators are making decisions at every
string they
meet. These
decisions are discussed here among translators. That
would
be quite new
that the PM is getting involved in these choices for a
particular
language.
Finally this
mailing list is used to collaborate on the French
translation in
French. I will
not answer any other mail in English on the topic.
Sorry for the
inconvenience.
Hi,
I am the current Wesnoth project
lead. The wiki page
https://wiki.wesnoth.org/TraductionRaces
was brought to my attention by another
contributor. Translations are meant to follow the
meaning of the source text as closely as possible,
not to change or water down the meaning because of
personal distaste for certain lines of dialogue.
If there are issues with the source text then the
issues should be discussed with the development
team as has happened many times before.
Additionally, Wesnoth is not aimed at young
children, it's intended to be PG-13 (ages 13+).
