The only solution I can think of is that grub2 can boot directly from
an iso file,
and supports fat, hfs, and quite a few others
(http://grub.enbug.org/CurrentStatus).
This could be used with the home= option for some persistence.
The iso could then also be booted within the widows system using qemu.
It should also be possible to make home= use a file container, instead
of a partition.
