But WHEN will it become obsolete? Too many gadgets use it for their file format.
Also, I have to use an external harddrive between windows clients that I do not have administrator rights to and linux clients that I do. Getting everyone to safely remove the harddrive when it was ntfs became a major headache.

You're right. There's really no good reason to support it. FAT32
will become obsolete, anyway.
