Hi, hope all are well.

Having contributed a little to this overlay for a bit on and off over the years, I'd really like to carry on helping out where I can also. I agree it really has stagnated and not sure how to go about it any more..

I do think something should be done for Proaudio on Gentoo and I'd like to see it succeed, the overlay really helped me getting into the audio side of Gentoo when I first started on it. The main issues for me was having access or not of all the different services, wiki, bug tracker, other stuff having been a barrier. There are lots of people that want to work around audio on Gentoo (looking at you too gentoostudio.org) and having it fragmented all over the place in different repos, (gentoo bug tracker/forums, proaudio wiki/bugtracker/forums) without access doesn't solve anything IMHO. Everybody can have an overlay or web site promoting Gentoo for a task and it's great but bus factor at pro-audio project? I don't know what to say.
Plenty of things have distracted my attention from the overlay we all have other stuff to do..

I'm not the best person at communicating either and getting stuff into Gentoo has not always been easy, people busy with other stuff, being crucified by developers for sloppy ebuilds etc :) There are lots of great gems in the overlay even if they are not currently maintained, not sure how those packages will fare in Gentoo proper by not having a bugfix release for several years so an overlay is the only option sometimes. Sorry to say but this is the result of 10 years of it being left to rot after numerous changes in portage, not for the worst I might add, I think most of the ebuilds worked a while back after a build test in a VM but not proper review and probably last EAPI changes.

IMHO I think what should happen is this:

* Pull the best bits out the proaudio repo and insert them in Gentoo is a good idea and that is how it has been for a long time, the repo was/is a test ground but lots of unreviewed ebuilds were dumped here, yes I'm also guilty of it! Ebuilds needed better review and closer collab with Gentoo devs ideally similar to sunrise.

* More prominent Proaudio project sponsored and reviewed by Gentoo. For a start having some extended page in the Gentoo wiki  following on from https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Sound - for Gentoo users wanting more specialised music creation applications.
Yes, the proaudio wiki is good but why not take advantage of Gentoo wiki now? It really is great. Hopefully this could list all the people in the team and gather everyone on the same page rather than fragmented all over the place doing their own thing.

I hope I haven't offended anyone just rambling my 2p.

All the best,
Gav
