Re: [hatari-devel] Suggestion for enhanced keymap table format

Hello,

About my proposal to better handle "alt shift" keys.

I have done some improvements and fixed some bugs, attached is the diff between the current "master" and my branch. Except a documented limitation in the code, it has been worked ok for me, I have used it for a week now and haven't noticed anything bad.
Not sure about patches as there are a lot of boring commits. I also
attached the full files from my branch.
Thank you

Vincent B.

Hi,

I did a diff between your and current keymap.c
version (attached).

Hi

thanks for posting the diff

For your intended change to be reviewable, please
split all non-functional & unrelated code changes
(white space/indenting, const, ! -> ==0, type
changes, commenting out trace outputs) to
a separate patch, or remove them.

Then either rebase your changes to latest Hatari
git version of keymap.c, or otherwise make sure
they apply and still work with it, before posting
a patch / "git diff" against it.

looking at the diff you posted, I don't see that much unrelated
changes, there're a few indents changes here and there, but seeing the
patch is rather big it looks ok to me if some indents or some log
levels are changed to fit the patch, but nothing that seems to prevent
from reviewing the changes.
Also, keymap.c was last modified in dec 2019, so I guess the patch
should apply to dev version without loosing code.
As for reviewing/testing the patch itself, unfortunately I don't have
time at the moment. Maybe Thomas can have a look at it if he got time.
As a french user of Hatari, this looks like an interesting patch
anyway, as some characters are indeed "hard" to enter by default.
But it won't be included in Hatari 2.3, it's too late to make such
changes at this point. It can be included in next version when coding
will resume after release.
Nicolas

+# Keymap. This format allows you to associate SDL key descriptions with
+# scancodes simulating the corresponding keys pressed on the emulated ST..
+#
+# Format is the following:
+# <host_description>,<guest_description>
+#
+# <host_description> is the scancode the key pressed (which you can see
+# when running hatari with the "--trace keymap" option. Optionally you can
+# add a SDL key modifier. These are described in
+# https://wiki.libsdl.org/SDL_Keymod#Related_Functions.
+# You can also add a modifier mask. This mask will be bitwise "AND"ed to the
+# actual key pressed before it is compared with items from this keymap.
+# This allows you make mappings work regardless of the status of other
+# modifiers (e.g. NumLock).
+# All these (scancode, modifiers, mask) must appear in this order and be
+# separated by a pipe |.
+#
+# <guest_description> is the pipe-separated ordered list of scancodes to send
+# to the ST (4 max). For convenience you can use LSHIFT, RSHIFT and
+# ALTERNATE in lieu of 2a,36,38 respectively.
+# You can find scancodes in many Atari documentation places, e.g.
+# or https://freemint.github.io/tos.hyp/en/scancode.html
+#
+# Notes:
+# * All scan codes must be in hexadecimal.
+# * The parser is not very smart so don't add spaces etc.
+# * Make the narrowest specification appear first.

# Keymap. This format allows you to associate SDL key descriptions with
# scancodes simulating the corresponding keys pressed on the emulated ST.
#
# Format is the following:
# <host_description>,<guest_description>
#
# <host_description> is the scancode the key pressed (which you can see
# when running hatari with the "--trace keymap" option. Optionally you can
# add a SDL key modifier. These are described in
# https://wiki.libsdl.org/SDL_Keymod#Related_Functions.
# You can also add a modifier mask. This mask will be bitwise "AND"ed to the
# actual key pressed before it is compared with items from this keymap.
# This allows you make mappings work regardless of the status of other
# modifiers (e.g. NumLock).
# All these (scancode, modifiers, mask) must appear in this order and be
# separated by a pipe |.
#
# <guest_description> is the pipe-separated ordered list of scancodes to send
# to the ST (4 max). For convenience you can use LSHIFT, RSHIFT and
# ALTERNATE in lieu of 2a,36,38 respectively.
# You can find scancodes in many Atari documentation places, e.g.
# or https://freemint.github.io/tos.hyp/en/scancode.html
#
# Notes:
# * All scan codes must be in hexadecimal.
# * The parser is not very smart so don't add spaces etc.
# * Make the narrowest specification appear first.
