BTW when value is 7f (after ejecting/inserting a disk), if you unselect
the drive, you read 6f and if you select it again it's back to 7f ?

This is the case for my drive. No amount of deselecting and selecting will reset the disk changed status, only a step pulse will.

AFAIK this is standard shugart interface floppy drive behavior. Amiga drives have exact same behavior, only step resets disk change signal and drive output signals are driven only when drive is selected. (Allows multiple connected drives without extra circuitry)

Stepping towards track "-1" also works, most drives refuse to physically step but will still reset disk change signal, some very old drives try to physically step and hit the track zero stop.. (in Amigas only A1000s had that kind of drive).
