According to Thomas Harte on ACC (don't remember the thread, might  
have been the 4.9.6 one), OpenAL is a standard component of CoreAudio  
and therefore always present. It's certainly my experience that it's  
installed by default both on 10.4 and 10.5, since I never installed  
it on either and it's there anyway.
