The following thread indicates it was tested with Microsoft Visual Studio 2003
Toolkit and MSVC 6.  If someone can confirm that -lib works for those as well
then we can change it.

it might be time to start considering dropping MSVC6, it is buggy, old,and there are better alternatives.
