Oh, come on, these functions exists for so long that I doubt they are buggy.
However, if Microsoft does plan on continuing active support for the original
functions, and doesn't plan on removing them (as you suggest), then there was
no reason to deprecate them.. except to encourage people to use the
Windows-specific variations.
Sure he wants. But not because they are Windows specific, but because MS
thinks that using them leads to less buggy code.
