Deprecation is more than a "warning" mark. It's a mark to tell people that 
these functions are not actively supported. You could expect bugfixes or 
feature enhancements to be given to printf_s, but not necessarily have them 
"backported" to printf.

However, if Microsoft does plan on continuing active support for the original 
functions, and doesn't plan on removing them (as you suggest), then there was 
no reason to deprecate them.. except to encourage people to use the 
Windows-specific variations.
