I suppose so. I guess the reasoning behind this is: if you are using
custom fonts, you are probably doing something fairly extensive and
therefore you will have more than a single file to load. At which point,
it becomes easier to use packfiles.

That's quite a lot of code, and slow too. Check out the font plugin in
the grabber.

Have a look at the Allegro Fonts addon, see if it is what you need.
