Because network is something which really really really is not needed in
lots of games, just take a look at allegro.cc. I understand however that
today the trend is to move towards multiplayer(only) games, but since
networking is really hard to do properly as well, I think it deserves
it's own library with proper documentation, examples, etc.


Perhaps Allegro can only have basic operations, like open communication port, send bytes, receive bytes, close port. Anything more fancy can be implemented in add-ons.
