Re: OSUOSL

It's true, OSUOSL isn't obligated to help us in any way. I am just
surprised by how much disinterest there was in linux and the open
source community... and with even a modicum of basic professionalism,
we should have received a reply from them. It has been more than 5
weeks, and surely they're aware that we're losing our current host at
the end of this month. Having researched the guy I met with, I
expected something more than a corporate sellout - I even read through
the Cathedral and the Bazaar, a book he says embodies his view of open
source... but while I was there, I felt more like I was in the belfry
of the cathedral (and yes, I do think Google's intention is to shake
down the parishioners). But enough said about that - I was just
venting. Next thought....

This sounds like the best idea. It's certainly easier to find someone
to host a dedicated machine, than it is to find someone who's got the
resources to spare.

We have talked on IRC about the possibility of sharing resources
spanning a number of computers. In particular, Gokhlayeh brought up
distcc (http://code.google.com/p/distcc/), an app for compiling C code
over networked machines. I don't know if this would be practical, but
I think a number of us have a few resources we could contribute.

Of course, having more money would help. Although it's much too short
notice to raise money in the next week, it may be worth checking out
kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/) as a way of funding Slitaz's
upcoming growth needs. This is the same service that got Diaspora off
the ground. No matter how we look at it, doesn't seem like we're
going to find a truly free solution, so fund raising is definitely in
order. And why not a Support Slitaz section on the front page, with
the PayPal Donate button easy to find?
