When building Sawfish could you post your
src/build.h
file? It is generated for each build and should include the proper path to SAWFISH_EXECDIR (which is, where sawfish-menu resides in). Though, if you do
"PREFIX=foo make install"
it is likely to fail, if the --prefix passed to configure and PREFIX passed to make differ. Else I don't actually see a reason why it should not work -- besides a faulty build.h generated somehow.
