I'm mostly with Peter on this one, for the reasons he already gave.
But what about the following idea: although you cannot tell Allegro what driver to use, you can *suggest* that Allegro tries one particular driver before the others.
Normally that means you'll get what you asked for, but it would still work on other systems or in situations where that particular sound driver is not available.
