After struggling with the CoolText website in an attempt to recreate
the Allegro logo again, I gave up and had a go in the Gimp.
The problem was that although I now have the Utopia font available
(thanks Grzegorz!) I can't select the font style (italic).
So, I tried to recreate it in the Gimp; the gimp .xcf file is
available here: http://www.eglebbk.dds.nl/download/allegro_logo.xcf
There are multiple layers in that image: in the background is a
gradient from #6495ed to #ffffff. The layer above that shows the
points I used to define the gradient; above that is a white layer with
the text "Allegro V" cut out in 128 point Utopia Italic. The layer
above that is an embossed version of the same in an attempt to
replicate the slight lighting effect in the original logo (it doesn't
quite do it). The top layer is a cutout from the drop shadow; there's
also an invisible 3D shadow layer that we probably don't want.
It could do with some touching up here and there, but so far I'm
satisfied with it. Would it be useful to add this to svn? The
advantage is that it will be much easier to make modifications to it
if and when we need to than with the CoolText logo itself.
