I just tried switching out and back in to X11 with an Allegro program
running, no problem.

But, I know that with my previous graphics card, such switching (with or
without Allegro programs running) would often crash X11.

Anyway, it's quite likely there's some problems in Allegro's X11 driver
- but if X11 crashes, and not Allegro, then this problem very likely is
not one of them, but something with X11.
