I've written something about these two issues in the past with Elias or Evert, however I do not have time now to dig for past e-mails.Yes, and from what I remember, the solution was to simply add the missing glyphs to demo.dat. There only was some doubt which font to use, it should be a completely free one. I remember, I tried to do it with xf2pcx.. but there was some problem which I forgot :P Anyway, this reminds me, I have a version of demo.c which is cleaned up and split up into multiple files.. should I create a patch for it? Or will the demo be removed for 4.2.0 anyway, so no point to apply it now? (In which case, missing glyphs in demo.dat wouldn't matter as well..) An easier solution (perhaps a solution for lazy people like me) would be to fix "thanks._tx", replacing the accented characters by their 7-bit ASCII counterparts. I've submitted once a patch for thanks._tx to alleg-developers that removed these accents, but now it is probably outdated. Evert told that he would apply the patch if the demo.dat font weren't fixed, as he wrote: I agree with Evert. Thanks! This is fine with me, although if someone prefers editing the demo.dat TITLE font I think that would be better. I'll wait until thursday noonish (GMT) before I apply your patch. This thead was written on March, 29th and was named "Patch to thanks._tx and demo.c" It's totally irrelevant for me if my name is written with accent (Márcio) or without accent (Marcio). Actually in many typed documents here in Brazil, including my ID, my name is typed without the accent, even though it should have according to our orthographic rules. There are only three contributors that in thanks._tx have their names written with accented characters: Julien Cugnière, Márcio Fialho, and Ville Skyttä. Does only three names justify the overhead in demo.dat for storing accented characters? And about the src\dos\wss.c driver? Is anybody willing to fix it? Do you think it worths spending time to fix it or is MS-DOS just too obsolete? If I had more time I would fix it myself, but I don't know when I'll have a break. It could be tomorrow or only in 2006. :-) Regards, Márcio. |
