As I said, take a look at either "alogg" (http://lyrian.obnix.com/alogg/)
or at "dumb" (http://dumb.sourceforge.net/) and do something similar
to what they did. These are both audio add-ons for Allegro, and should
be reasonably good examples. They may be much more complex than what
you want to do (simply loading a file format into a sample, I assume?)
but it should serve as a starting point.
