I believe those weren't part of the standard until C99 (please correct 
me if I'm wrong).. so it falls under the same area as // comments and 
declare-variables-anywhere. Until Allegro starts requiring C99 compilers 
(or at least takes advantage of them by checking some defines that 
should exist), you can't do it.
