The 4.odd series is for development, where new functions are added and 
tested. It contains API backwards compatibility, but not necesarilly 
forward or ABI compatibility. The 4.even series is the stable one, where 
ABI compatibility is.

The WIP releases are not meant for public consumption except for testing 
purposes. The WIP status alone should negate any ABI compatibility 
claims in the docs. :)
