Surround sound support would require changes to the mixer. Certainly 
possible, but I'm not sure how to do that "pseudo-3d" effect using only 
two channels. And doing more than two output channels will require 
changes to all the audio drivers, even ones that would stick with one or 
two channels (and of course, the DX mixer would need to be able to do 
psuedo-3d like Allegro's mixer would, either in the driver itself, 
requiring it to copy the code from Allegro's mixer, or in DX itself, 
where we don't really have control, or else you'd get even more mixing 
inconsistencies).
