The final version is available at:

Tested on Linux and Darwin. Unix specialists may want to check that I didn't
screw up the configure process...
Note: the patch doesn't include the magic main modification, so Allegro
won't compile on Darwin "as-is". An additional patch is needed (for
instance: http://www.multimania.com/ebotcazou/dev/magic_main2.zip)
