Yes, those are really sad news... All the BeOS users can do as by now is to
wait until Palm says something about it; Palm itself has just discovered the
underground BeOS community and said it may even consider BeOS for the future.
BeOS users and all of you are invited to sign up the petitions at the
following addresses:

http://www.petitiononline.com/savebeos/
http://beserved.teldar.com/petition.asp
http://206.231.159.58/save/

The last one is probably the most important as Palm directly asked for it.
IMO a possible way for BeOS to survive would be if Palm decides to license it
to a third party company... Kinda like what happened to OS/2. Let's hope, as
BeOS is a really good piece of software!

About the BeOS Allegro port: I'm now using BeOS as my primary OS (writing
this from there), and there have been a lot of changes to the port lately -
guess you never tried it before, as it is already completed and fully working
(maybe there are some minor things left)... Probably WIP 3.9.38 will have
more changes on the BeOS port like it never had before, so you really can't
say it is unmaintained =)

It should be clear now that I'm strongly against separating the BeOS port
from the official Allegro 4 release. It would be a shame!
