Looks quite cool, I certainly wouldn't mind. And may I suggest adding an
option for storing images and sprites (>8 bpp) as a series of MAKECOL macro
references. You will then obviously have to define the macro and write it to
the generated .c file. If that is done and there's added an option to define
the desired destination color-depth; Then it will expand nicely during
compile. Another thing is to make the utility work without a header file.
