Confirmed under Windows 95 (Mingw32, DirectX 7):

                   3.9.37 CVS
Cherokee        2 min 52 s
DoctorJones    3 min 46 s

And under DOS (djgpp, OPL3):

                   3.9.37 CVS
Cherokee        2 min 50 s
DoctorJones    3 min 44 s


The problem vanishes under Windows if the single-threaded timer driver is
used, but that's a fake solution (see my message on the AL list).
