You should have said screwed up... by me :-(

When I made top level menus not auto-open, I replaced mouse_sel by m.sel
(because the rest of the code uses m.sel) and this end up with keys
triggering auto-opening as well, which is a bad thing because you now can't
go back from sub-menus with keys !

The attached fix was commited.
