Damn it ;-)
I just realized that the DirectSoundCapture interface isn't part of DirectX
3, but was introduced with DirectX 5. I think we would better postpone
merging the patch for the time being.
But as soon as we have a clear view on the DirectX version issue, we'll
merge it.

I don't understand your modification: according to the docs,
read_sound_input() returns "non-zero" if a buffer has been copied, but we
have no guarantee that this return value matches the buffer size.
