I'd also like to put chrony.conf and chrony.keys in a single /etc/chrony
directory (as I do now on Debian) but that's just neatness.
Do you propose to change the compiled-in path? Or to add a new
configure option like --sysconfdir?
I'm not sure about changing the default after so many years, other
distributions use /etc/chrony.conf.
I would also be hessitant about that, unless one changes the code to look both
in /etc/ and in /etc/chrony for the config files. One does not want a simple
upgrade to suddenly cause chrony to stop working. Most people do not read the
docs to know they should have transfered all the files to /etc/chrony/
