I expect the short answer is "yes" to the question of whether IcedTea could
be causing OOM issues; however, I don't think it is technically the log or
the logging itself. The IcedTea build process just uses a lot of processor
and memory resources.
In the receipt itself, at the beginning of the compile_rules() section, the
following command is issued:
ulimit -v $(awk '/MemTotal/ { print int(($2*80)/100) }' < /proc/meminfo)
This was added after earlier problems with high memory usage were noted.

Do you think that the gigantic logged output could be the cause of the
OOM we are noticing in syslog ? (causing init to be killed, etc)
