Just for the record : I have finally been able to find out where that subversion directory was located :
subversion e-classes unpacks sources in the 
/usr/portage/distfiles/svn-src/ tree.

So the action to take was :
cd /usr/portage/distfiles/svn-src/jack-audio-connection-kit/jack
svn cleanup

I learnt this from this great resource :

That's the problem.

You'll need to (something like);

root #  cd /usr/portage/local/layman/pro-audio
root # svn cleanup

...or wherever your local pro-audio checkout is.
