Is there a Japanese TOS that you wish to map to? I haven't yet encountered one, and there isn't really a way to create a mapping without an existing specification to map to.

Otherwise, mapping from a Japanese host keyboard isn't really something covered by the symbolic mapping effort, directly, unless there was a corresponding Japanese TOS, but for cross-langauge mappings it's not really necessary to account for it directly.

The symbolic mapping is mostly host language agnostic, which is really the whole point of improving the system. It should (mostly) just "work" with whatever keyboard you have, translated into whatever TOS you have.

Practically, many keyboard layouts have a few "extra" keys, so there might be one or two extra keys from a Japanese keyboard that we could give generic mappings for, though they likely won't have any mapping that makes natural sense here. For example, if the kana key comes up as a separate symbolic ID through SDL, there's no ST with a kana key, but I could give it a generic mapping maybe to ST capslock? The choice here would be very arbitrary, closest fit or most useful fit, basically. I'm not sure if that's really worth the effort?

I've only focused on host keyboards that correspond to an existing TOS.
