This *might* have to do with the fact that SDL2 prefers X11 even if
run under Wayland.
That means that if Xwayland is running, SDL2 uses that. You could try,
for debugging purposes, install a simple wayland compositor like
weston and force it to not start Xwayland, and see if the problem
still exists.
