I can't tell either. But it could have nothing to do with single/double 
sided but just some different spinning speed on these 2 drives that make 
some protections fail if they don't have enough security margin.

In all cases, you can post these 2 SCP/STX images to atari-forum, people 
are collecting/preserving all the games, they could be interested in 
your versions and you can gain access to the download area.
