Near as I can tell, this thing is running X11, not Wayland.
Hmm, here's what I have installed:
charles@iorich:~$ pre wayland x11
libva-wayland2 2.10.0-1 amd64
libva-x11-2 2.10.0-1 amd64
libwayland-client0 1.18.0-2~exp1.1 amd64
libwayland-cursor0 1.18.0-2~exp1.1 amd64
libwayland-egl1 1.18.0-2~exp1.1 amd64
libwayland-server0 1.18.0-2~exp1.1 amd64
libx11-6 2:1.7.2-1 amd64
libx11-data 2:1.7.2-1 all
libx11-protocol-perl 0.56-7.1 all
libx11-xcb1 2:1.7.2-1 amd64
libxkbcommon-x11-0 1.0.3-2 amd64
x11-apps 7.7+8 amd64
x11-common 1:7.7+22 all
x11-session-utils 7.7+4 amd64
x11-utils 7.7+5 amd64
x11-xkb-utils 7.7+5 amd64
x11-xserver-utils 7.7+8 amd64
charles@iorich:~$
How do I tell which I am using? I ran several of the tests at
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/202891/how-to-know-whether-wayland-or-x11-is-being-used,
and all were inconclusive.
The UI version seems to work just fine. The Python folks recommend that
there be a symlink of python to /usr/bin/python3, but Debian doesn't
provide one. That was not a problem.
root@iorich:~# python3 --version
Python 3.9.2

Does anybody read signatures any more?
