This option is only about the AUTO folder - and it's also mentioned like
this in the manual:

It's just some "ugly" patching of system variables - so there is
no equivalent for this on real hardware.

On a real machine you can bypass the harddisk driver by holding the ALT key during bootup, then the machine will function like a machine without harddrive (eg, load auto and acc stuff from floppy).

So it's a bit of a reverse to Hataris boot from hd.
