[gluon] Licensing for Gluon

[ Thread Index | Date Index | More lists.tuxfamily.org/gluon Archives ]

Hi peoples!

i am sending this email to both the gluon and kde-games-devel lists, so
please be sure to reply to all when you reply, to avoid splitting the
conversation up too much :)

As the subject indicates, the topic of this email is to spark some
discussion on the topic of the license used for Gluon and its libraries, as
well as a request for help on this topic in general.
Currently, the Gluon codebase contains a number of different licenses, some
of which i understand are incompatible with the KDE license policy. As such, a
few of us decided (spurred on by troy) to launch this little discussion about
the issue.
One suggestion, by troy, is to simply follow the Qt license - in other
words, to let the end users choose which license they wish use by choosing
which Qt license they want.

What do you all think about this? This needs to be resolved before alpha1,
which is scheduled for "really soon" ;)

P.S.: The issue here does not include that of games created using Gluon
Creator: The reason for this is that they are irrelevant to this, since they
are content, and as such licensed independently.
