I can't stand editing and producing code in anything other than Linux. That being said, I recently got a new computer, and Linux refuses to place nice with it.
For the long and short of it, I've been working on a laptop for the longest time, and when it comes to doing digital art or 3D sculpting, it falls behind. So I got a new computer - and in order to affordably bolster the graphics to the power I need on-the-cheap I used an SLI configuration for 2 video cards. I also chose Nvidia because ATI is not a friend to Linux.
Anywho, that choice of SLI configuration has me seriously questioning what to do, because I can't install the Nvidia drivers without destroying X. Without the Nvidia drivers, I can't get my resolution past 800x600 to the 2560x1600 native res on the new monitor. I'm still fighting every night trying to get this video issue working, and I refuse to remove one of the video cards that I paid for. So far, the closest I've gotten to getting anything working still landed me in command-line territory.
For now, I'm stalled in development. I cannot work at an 800x600 scale. I'm debating whether to spend $480 on a single, powerful video card that will suit my needs and allow me to use my favorite OS; but until I cave in and receive another paycheque or get Linux to work, I'm stuck in the mud. I can't use the older laptop, the hard-drives from it were installed
into the new desktop, and I'm not playing mad scientist every time I
want to switch. That's my update.
