ETHIOPIAN ACTIVISTS PROMOTE FOSS

NGOs APC and Catia have joined forces with the Ethiopian Free and
Open Source Network to host a series of workshops over the next 10
days to promote the use of of free and open source software in that
country. The series of three workshops will range from FOSS policy
discussions to advanced systems administrator training.

MOROCCAN FISHERIES ESCAPES PROPRIETARY NET

One of Morocco's first government departments to start the move to
free software has chosen to switch its servers to Mandriva Linux and
is looking at switching desktops to Linux in the near future in a
move that could save them as much as 80% of their acquisition and
support costs.

Following the successful community-based marketing efforts that
raised awareness of the FireFox browser, another grassroots
organisation is planning a similar campaign to market the
OpenOffice.org suite. The campaign's first project is to place a full
back page advert in New York's free daily Metro newspaper.
