There's no additional allowance for synchronization than what can be 
done by the backend alone (i.e. more or less what is done now). What do 
you think needs to be done on the user's side of things? The current 
implementation can get out of sync in principle (although in practice, I 
haven't noticed it), but I think that's an issue of the implementation, 
not of the API.

As for configuration, my idea was to either punt it to allegro5.cfg or 
add a create_video function with a flags/options parameter.
