That API is incomplete and needs some work. This specific change is 
inadvisable, as there will also be index buffers which will also have, 
in principle, a similar set of hints. I might just remove/cut down on 
the hints, as most combinations don't do anything different on my 
hardware (see ex_vertex_buffer).

Is there a release date you're going for that all this should be 
resolved by? I can try to hurry things up if it's soon...
