On my system ex_depth_mask was very slow with the D3D driver (< 1 FPS).

I tested the patch but it didn't fix the problem. I believe it's the same
changes as you suggested on the ML?

I believe the attached patch would fix it. It makes no difference with my
only WIndows machine here (macbook dual-boot, with HD3000) but I may get a
chance to try it on a Windows machine in the office as well, that may be
more likely to reproduce the problem.
