I've always assumed that "4.4" would be something that we would call  
"5.0" by the time it came out. With hindsight, I would say we should  
have called 4.3 4.9 from the beginning since it's intended purpose is  
to make it 5.0 in the end, not 4.4 in any meaningful sense.
My only reason for not suggesting something like this is that it  
might be confusing for outsiders. Other than that, good idea.
