I was under the impression (not having followed the last year's
discussions) that 4.3 was going to be the new API, so upon hearing
about "bits of old API will still be left" I thought that was to
be the whole thing, rather than a second 4.4 change which would
bring the whole thing.
Another solution it a C++ API on top of the C API, that way we
can use namespaces and using directives.
