There's also the netinfo database which is a bit like an XML-based
Windows registry, but I suggest we don't go there!
For Linux I did have a link for the Filesystems Hierarchy Standard
which was IIRC part of the Linux standards base project, but I lost it.
That explained where everything should go. I learnt there that
/usr/share was only supposed to contain processor-independent stuff
(i.e. not binaries) as it might be shared cross-platform as an NFS
mount.
