My rewrite of set_gfx_mode() modified another thing: the global variable
gfx_driver is set only after a graphics driver has successfully been
initialized. Guess what ? The Windows port relies on it being set before the
graphics driver is initialized... <shrug> ... fixed by the attached patch
that I've already commited.
